THE FRANK AND WALTERS — Underground (Setanta)
Now this is unexpected. You kind of know what you're going to get with a brand new Frank and Walters single, and you certainly don't expect to hear a cross between Bis' ‘Eurodisco’, Rialto and Baxendale. Yet this is exactly what this sounds like.
But guess what? It's actually really good. Embarrassingly compulsive even. The chorus is terrible lyrically (‘When you hear the sound/ Of the underground/ As the beat goes down/ As the beat goes round. . .’), but it's delivered with such gusto, with such wonderful pop sensibility that you have to, have to dance. In fact, you have to jump up and down and expect to hear this echoing across a field at a festival. The Frank and Walters, somewhat out of the blue, have produced the perfect pop song. It's disposable, meaningless, and should be top of the pop charts right now (though obviously it won't be...). PH.
