The Frank & Walters go to jail
16 Jun 2006 |
But don't worry — it's just to record a track and
perform a few gigs.
The Frank and Walters will record the track 'Fight' at Wheatfield Prison in
Dublin this month for their upcoming album. The song is about a man who has
served time in jail and is coming to terms with the real world. Lead vocalist
Paul Linehan said the band have had 'Fight' in their catalogue for a while but
never felt right playing it until they performed at Wheatfield last December.
“After that show, having met and talked to the prisoners we suddenly had
a feel for the song”, Linehan says. Drummer Ashley Keating adds:
“We're always wary of writing about things we don't know a lot about and
the whole experience of playing in the prison gave us the confidence to take on
the song. We thought it would really add to the atmosphere if it was actually
recorded in a prison and the people in Wheatfield were kind enough to make it
happen for us.” The Frank and Walters will again play at Wheatfield later
in the year along with gigs in Mountjoy and maybe even their hometown Cork's
Prison.
The album featuring 'Fight', called A Renewed Interest In Happiness,
will come out at the end of September.
