Northern California Canaan Dog Fanciers

The purpose of the NCCDF is to allow Canaan Dog owners in and around the Northern California region to meet other Canaan Dog owners, learn more about their own dogs and the breed, and to have fun. Our Canaan Dogs have titles in conformation, herding, tracking, obedience, and agility.

If you are interested in joining the NCCDF or would like to learn more about the club and the breed (and perhaps meet some Canaan Dogs in person!), please contact:

Our dogs have been busy!

Abbey (also known as DOTY 1994 CDCA/UKC/ARBA Ch. Far Sight Abigail, CGC, CDCA/AKC TD, CDCA-HS) recently earned her AHBA HTDI-s at the spritely age of 10! Congratulations Joan and Abbey!

A NCCDF Canaan Dog has won the Canaan Dog Club of America National Specialty yet again! Congrats to Tootsie (Ch. Mad River Ain't Misbehavin, HC) for her Best of Breed at the 2003 National Specialty and to her owners Cindy and Sandy! Tootsie went on to win the herding group the next day at the all-breed shows in Cincinnati, then got a Group 2 on the subsequent day!

For the second year in a row, a NCCDF Canaan Dog has earned the CDCA's Dog of the Year award! Congratulations to DOTY-2002, CDCA/ARBA/AKC Ch. Pleasant Hill Yaakov Metav, CDCA-HCX, V, AKC- NA, NAJ, CGC, AHBA-HCT ("Yaki") and his proud owner Sally Armstrong-Barnhardt, who was awarded CDCA Member of the Year for 2002 at the same time!!!

The Canaan Dog Club of America's 2002 National Specialty was held in October in association with the Del Valle show. A Northern California Dog, "Max" won Best of Breed (from the Veteran's class and for a record fifth time), Veterans sweeps, and earned the highest score in obedience! Also in association with the national specialty was a herding instinct test and our first NCCDF fun match. Three of our dogs received multiple Herding Group placements, three have earned agility titles, and one has earned his CDX (the fifth in the breed to do so)!

We held an "Introduction to Agility Fun Day" in Pacifica on Sunday May 12, 2002. More than 15 Canaan Dogs participated! Our experienced dogs started the day with demonstration runs, then the beginners worked on some of the basics of agility - both the obstacles themselves and aspects of handling and training Canaan Dogs for performance events.
